why you should reuse paper

Recycling reduces paper waste by 50% in America. Recycling 1 ton of paper saves around 682 gallons of oil, 26,500 gallons of water and 17 trees. Every tree produces oxygen. People don’t think about reusing paper enough. They just take a paper and throw it away, but you can just use the other side. In the US with all the paper we waste, we could build a 12 foot high wall from New York to California in a year. Recycling the paper that one American uses in a day would create enough oxygen for three people to breathe. The more you reuse paper the less landfill there will be.

People don’t think how much cleaner the world would be if we recycled. Recycling and reusing paper is 194 times cleaner to the earth, than putting it in landfill. Reusing and recycling clean white paper creates 74% less air pollution and 35% less water pollution then using paper. For every one million ton of newspaper that is recycled we save 3,000,000 barrels of oil. For every one million ton of office paper that is recycled we save 2,000,000 barrels of oil. That’s why we should reuse paper. That’s how much we’ll save.

This is what you can do to save paper. You can use newspaper to wrap a present in place of wrapping paper. Don’t use paper a lot, unless you reuse both sides of it. Don’t use paper towels. Instead use a cloth towel. Now you know what you need to do to save paper.

Let me explain what I am doing or plan to do over the summer to save paper. I already reuse and recycle paper. I will try not to use paper plates or cups at home. I plan to get E-mail to save paper. I plan not to buy lots of paper because it will save money and paper. Now that you know what to do to save paper, you try! If you see people being wasteful with paper just say, “Don’t do that!” People don’t see how they’re making a mess of the world.

I am a kid and a little brother. I see using paper differently than adults. I say to myself, “That is a bad choice to make!” I don’t throw away paper a lot. Switch to e-mailing to save lots of oil and resources. I hope you help to save water, trees and lots more. I hope you see that wasting paper is a bad habit. Don’t buy too much paper and don’t waste it.
